The lava shell massage uses clam shells as a tool to deliver heat. While porcelain shells can be used, they don’t provide the same natural effect. Traditionally, these clams were eaten in Southeast Asia, but their shells were discarded. Now, these shells are recycled for this massage. Instead of using hot water like in a hot stone massage, a small pouch with minerals, salt water, and algae is placed inside the shell. This mix creates heat that lasts 1-2 hours. The temperature difference helps stimulate circulation, boost the immune system, and reduce water retention.
